Travel Assessments
HYS performs travel assessments following the spring season to determine each players team placement for the fall season. Assessments will only be performed in the fall for new travel players or at the request of current travel players. Teams are created each season based on the following criteria.
Travel Team Building:
- Player Skill Assessment - All players will be evaluated at the age based assessment/tryout and current HYS players will be assessed during prior season games.
- Player's Year of Birth - US Club Soccer mandates teams must be bracketed based on Year of Birth of the oldest player on the team.
- Player's Grade in School - HYS is a community based program, we do consider players grade in school as we build teams.
- Number of Players - If we do not have enough players in an age/skill bracket players may be moved to create teams.
- Coach Feedback - Previous season coaches are asked to provide player evaluations to travel directors.
Assessment Process: Players skills will be assessed as listed below. If your player is not available on the assigned travel assessment dates, please contact the travel director.
- Skill Assessments: dribbling, passing, shooting, & small sided games (see assessment schedule below).
- Game Assessments: travel directors attempt to see as many games as possible / trainers are also assigned to perform game assessments
- Coach Feedback: all coaches are asked to provide player feedback on all players on their current teams.
