Travel vs YDA for 1st - 4th Grade Players


HYS recommends that players who plan to play travel soccer transition from the YDA program to the Travel program as soon as they are comfortable. This can happen as early as second grade. The travel program will allow some older/more experienced first graders to join as well. This is not only the recommendation of HYS but also our High School coaches and US Soccer.

Below is some information comparing the Travel and YDA programs.

Program Description

Introduction to travel soccer with a focus on individual skill development and game tactics in preparation for higher level travel play

Continued development of soccer skills and team play in preparation for travel soccer

Field Size

7v7 likely transitioning to 9v9 by 4th Grade

6v6 or 7v7

Team Practice Commitment

1.5 hours/twice per week1 hour/once a week

Sharon or Granger

Granger Park

Away Game Locations

Opponents within a 1 hour drive

U7/U8 Granger Park; U9/U10 local Medina community fields

Primary Game Day

Sundays, occasional weekday gamesSaturdays
